The cross that almost wasn’t made.

The story of this cross is about Love. I worked on the original version of this cross for weeks. I tweaked it and sanded finishes off of it and was never satisfied with the way it turned out. My wife walked in the shop one day and asked “What cross is this?'“ I told her it is one that I just can’t seem to get perfect no matter how hard I try. She said to me, “It is perfect just like it is, don’t change a thing.” She said it all! That’s the love that comes from your wife, your mom, your heavenly father. It’s a Love that is new every day. It a love that endures and is unconditional no matter how flawed you see yourself. It’s a love that endures no matter what. Later that week we held contest on our facebook page to name the cross. The name that was chosen by everyone was the Enduring Love Cross. It is the perfect name.

My wife received the first one for her Mother’s day gift from me and the second one went to the winner of the cross naming contest.

The Enduring Love Cross is made of solid hard maple and is heavy and dense for it’s size. I carve into the budded heart shapes to distinguish them from the cross itself. It is coated in at least three coats of a black cherry stain and allowed to dry until the point that it crystalizes. This first finish process can take up to 5 days. I then sand the color out of the center diamond and from the budding hearts surrounding the crosses Lily forming shape. It is then sealed with multiple coats of lacquer and buffed to a beautiful satin sheen.
