Ecclesiastes 4:4 Then I observed that most people are motivated to success because they envy their neighbors. But this, too, is meaningless—like chasing the wind.

In our society we have a tendency to measure ourselves against what others possess. We will often measure our own success based on having more than our neighbors. This creates a meaningless competition for possessions with no end. It can even lead to an anger or even hate towards someone for possessing more than you!!

We see it all the time. The Jones’s build a big new house and buy the latest shiny car. Something inside us says I want that! That’s not the voice of our God. Don’t ask yourself why you don’t have that. Try instead to ask yourself why you would need that! You have a roof over your head and your car has no monthly payment and it gets you where you need to go. Trust that God will provide everything you need and stay on his path to success. He doesn’t want you to compete with your neighbor. He wants you to be humble and appreciate what you have right now.

Don’t chase the wind! Enjoy the gentle breeze God surrounds you with daily. :)
